Issue

Confusion persists regarding regional policies for Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR. Developers report restricted access to international resources, often requiring VPN usage despite differing local internet regulations. Clarification is required on Unity operational policies for these territories.

Explanation

Unity has announced an update to its regional licensing, distribution, and compliance policies affecting access to the overseas Asset Store. As of March 31, 2026, organizations located in mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, and Macau SAR will no longer be able to access the international Asset Store. This policy change includes both new acquisitions and continued access to previously purchased or free assets from the international store.

It is advised that organizations operating in these affected regions transition to using the China Asset Store and the TuanJie Engine for future development needs. To ensure the retention of existing assets, it is necessary to download all acquired resources locally before the March 31, 2026 deadline. This can be accomplished by utilizing the Download all button, which has been added to the My Assets page.

  1. Access the My Assets section of the account.
  2. Click the Download all button to save assets locally.
  3. Ensure all critical assets are backed up before March 31, 2026.

Should there be any discrepancy regarding the recorded operating location information, it is crucial to contact the Unity support team by March 15, 2026, to address the issue.

Additional Tips

  • Verify that local backups are stored on secure, redundant drives.
  • Check TuanJie Engine documentation for specific asset compatibility.
  • Complete all major downloads well before the March 31, 2026 cutoff.

TL;DR

Effective March 31, 2026, access to the overseas Asset Store will be terminated for organizations in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
